£3 million fund launched for gambling harms aftercare and community programmes

30th Jun 2022 GambleAware updates Press release

GambleAware launches an Aftercare Funding Programme and a Community Resilience Fund

London, 30 June 2022: GambleAware, the leading charity working to keep people safe from gambling harm, has launched two major funding programmes to focus on enabling people to sustain their recovery from gambling harm and to help communities who have been most affected by the cost-of-living crisis.

The Aftercare Funding Programme and the Community Resilience Fund will help further GambleAware’s work across Great Britain in supporting those most at risk of gambling harms and reducing health inequalities in the most disadvantaged communities.

Anna Hargrave, Chief Commissioning Officer, GambleAware said: “We are delighted to launch these two funding programmes which will build capacity among charities and organisations to better respond to gambling harms in their communities and support people in long-term recovery.

“Whilst there are many people who receive successful treatment and support for gambling harms, there is less known about how to ensure recovery is sustained. The Aftercare Funding Programme will help people in this phase of longer-term recovery and responds to the need for a long-term structured aftercare programme.

“The Community Resilience Fund will help organisations to address specific needs within the community and the inequalities they experience.”

The Aftercare Funding Programme

The £2 million Aftercare Funding Programme (AFP) is seeking applications for projects which will provide support services so that more people in recovery from gambling harm can rebuild their lives.

Current partners as well as new charities and organisations will be able to apply for the fund, with smaller organisations or pilot projects being awarded up to £150,000 and larger organisations or projects can apply for up to £350,000.

Owen Baily, a Lived Experience Consultant said: “The launch of GambleAware’s Aftercare Funding Programme is a much needed and welcome investment and will play a crucial role in the prevention of further gambling harm by funding a range of projects.

“Enabling people to build on their recovery capital is a key ingredient in ensuring people have the best chance to achieve and sustain long term recovery from gambling harms following gambling treatment.”

Applications for the Aftercare Funding Programme open today and will close on 15 August 2022 at 12 noon. To find out more about the application process please visit the Aftercare Funding Programme page.

The Community Resilience Fund

The £1 million Community Resilience Fund (CRF) aims to provide short term funding to enable organisations to respond quickly to the cost-of-living crisis, and the impact this has had in exacerbating gambling harms and increased exposure to them.

New partners and charities will be able to apply for up to £100,000 for 12 months.

Applications for the Community Resilience Fund open today and close on 8 August 2022 at 12 noon. To find out more about the application process please go to the CRF page.
