Our research priorities
Understanding gambling harms
We’re working to understand more about gambling harms and the experiences and views of people affected by gambling harms, so that we can make a difference.
Gambling harm stigma
People sometimes feel judged or discriminated against because of the stigma around gambling harms. Understanding stigma and how we can tackle it is a vital part of our work.
Impact on communities
Certain communities can carry a heavier burden of gambling harm. We want to understand these communities’ needs so we can tailor support services to them.
Prevention programmes
We’re carrying out research to find out more about ways we can prevent gambling harms. These learnings help to shape our harm prevention campaigns and our education and training programmes.
Support and treatment services
Our research brings together findings from the National Gambling Support Network, support services, early intervention programmes, and informal types of support such as self-help tools.
Policy and regulation
This research focuses on how the external environment can be made safer to prevent harm. It provides evidence for public policy and helps to inform how the gambling industry is regulated.
Our research strategy
Our research strategy sets out a direction of travel for research. This involves phasing out analysis of gambling products and operators for regulatory purposes and an increase in research on populations, communities and systems to inform the design and commissioning of interventions.
Our research strategy
Publication library
Our research and evaluation focus on understanding the scale of gambling harms, how those harms affect different communities, and what works to prevent and reduce those harms. Use our publication library to explore all our research reports.
