Author: Family Kids & Youth, CultureStudio, Sherbert Research Published: April 2024

Summary

This qualitative study by Family Kids & Youth, CultureStudio and Sherbert Research explores gambling experiences and harms amongst children and young people in Great Britain, commissioned by GambleAware.

Topics covered

building knowledge about the lived experience of gambling harms amongst children and young people children's understanding of and attitudes towards gambling how gambling impacts young people's everyday lives access to support and information about gambling risks

Key findings

Many children engage in gambling-like activities without recognising them as gambling because gambling advertising often uses the same:
  • cartoon-like graphics
  • bright colours
  • sounds
Regulation is required to ensure that gambling adverts state that gambling content is not for children. More in-person education for children, parents and schools is needed to show the potential risks of online gambling-like games.
