About us

We are the leading independent charity and strategic commissioner of gambling harms education, prevention, early intervention, and treatment across Great Britain. We’re passionate about what we do and are committed to making a real difference.

Who we are

We are an evidence-based charity. Our trustees and leadership team have extensive public health, NHS and charity experience. We have a strong governance process to make sure the gambling industry has no input or influence on our work.

We are accountable to the Charity Commission and our Board of Trustees. With arrangement by the UK Government, we are funded by voluntary donations from the gambling industry.

What we do

We work in close collaboration with the government, gambling treatment providers, NHS, and the lived experience community, to create advice, tools and research to help keep people safe from gambling harms. We also commission a range of treatment and support services across Great Britain.

Who we work with

Lived experience community

Our Lived Experience Council play a vital role in shaping our short and long-term plans. The Council is made up of people with lived experience of gambling harms, including those who have been affected by other people’s gambling.

The National Gambling Support Network

We commission the National Gambling Support Network (NGSN), a network of organisations across Great Britain. The NGSN provide free, non-judgmental, confidential treatment, advice and support on a range of gambling related issues. They support people who are experiencing gambling harms, as well as those affected by someone else’s gambling. This includes the National Gambling Helpline which takes around 42,000 calls a year.

Government

We work closely with the Gambling Commission, the Department for Digital, Media & Sport, the Department of Health and Social Care and the Ministry of Defence.

We support the government’s plans to introduce a statutory levy in the Gambling White Paper. The levy will allow further separation between the gambling industry and the commissioning of services to prevent gambling harm.

The levy will also give certainty and stability for funding which will allow an increase in access to early interventions and the number of local services that work to prevent gambling harm. It will also allow the development of a commissioning plan targeted at helping young people and children.
