GambleAware launches new maps to identify gambling harms prevalence by local area

17th Jun 2022 Understanding gambling harms Press release

Data from GambleAware's 2021 Annual Treatment and Support survey has informed a new set of interactive maps which give an indication of gambling harms prevalence across Great Britain and the demand for treatment and support.

The maps, which have been developed with senior research associate Oliver O'Brien at UCL, show gambling harms prevalence in each local authority and parliamentary constituency area, as well as usage of and reported demand for treatment and support for gambling harms.

This year, a map showing Index of Multiple deprivation (IMD) across Great Britain has been created to compare against gambling prevalence, as well as a map showing where National Gambling Treatment Service providers operate and their contact information.

Haroon Chowdry, Research, Information and Knowledge Director at GambleAware, said: “We know how important it is for people experiencing gambling harm to get help early on, through tailored support that meets their needs.

"These interactive maps have proven to be a valuable tool for local authorities and service providers to help them understand of the levels of need in their area, and where there may be gaps in provision. Now they can also be used by members of the public as well as local services in or order to see what support is available in their local area.

“As we continue to work in partnership with the rest of the system to embed a public health approach to tackling gambling harms, we hope this data will help to boost the support that’s available and ensure that more people can get support earlier.
